| 1993 installation with found objects, books, and text 88" x 60" x 24" This installation grew out of research stimulated by finding two objects: a water fountain and a black and white chessboard. The fountain and the chess board had an obvious association with the work of Marcel Duchamp. The research that inspired the piece started with Duchamp's original "Fountain" from the 1913 Armory Show in New York. A urinal presented upside down and submitted under a pseudonym, the piece was his first ready-made. In the ensuing controversy the piece was pulled from a non-juried show that was supposedly open to all. -- back to home page -- |
